Literacy Resources
Literacy—the ability to read and comprehend text—starts at an early age. In fact, the sooner you can read to, and with, your child the better.
Teaching your child a love or reading doesn't require a lot of time or investment. A short bedtime story for infants and toddlers is a good start. As little as 20 minutes a day for pre-school- and school-aged children is all it takes. And remember, a regular visit to the library can be a fun outing for you and your child.
Make reading a habit, and you'll soon notice cues from your child that s/he is ready to start reading on his/her own. Letter and word recognition, mimicking sounds and repeating words you read are a few things to keep your eyes and ears open for.
