Additional Needs
February 8, 2023
The following information is based on the Ministry of Education's Supporting Students with Additional Needs.
High school students with additional needs have access to a variety of courses and programs to support their academic success.
We offer:
- Modified Courses are designed to provide an educational opportunity for students who have difficulty with mainstream courses. Students may enrol in a partial or complete modified program. Placement in and removal from the program is done with consultation between the student, teaching staff and parents.
- Alternative Education is a program designed to meet the needs of students who require instruction that is significantly different from mainstream or modified courses, even with appropriate adaptations and/or supports.
- Functionally Integrated Program is intended for students with significant intellectual and/or multiple disabilities who require highly individualized programming to meet their needs.
For more information, contact your local Catholic high school (see a list of schools and contact information).

Enrolment in modified courses, Alternative Education and Functional Integrated Programs has an impact on a student's post-secondary opportunities. Parents/guardians are encouraged to work with the school team to determine which course and programming options would best meet the needs of their child.
